academic levels

In the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) system, there are various levels that correspond to different stages of a student’s academic journey. These levels are designed to provide a structured and comprehensive educational experience from primary school to higher secondary education. Here are the key CBSE levels

Foundation Stage (K-Class 2)

  • The foundational stage, which covers pre-primary till grade 2, will consist of play or activity-based learning with a focus on good behaviour, courtesy, ethics, personal and public hygiene, teamwork and cooperation, etc.
  • The foundational stage of education will adopt a holistic development approach, focusing on nurturing all domains of a child’s development, including cognitive, socio-emotional, physical, and linguistic skills.
  • The curriculum will be designed to promote active learning, exploration, creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving, and social interaction.

Preparatory Stage (Classes 3-5)

  • At the preparatory level, students typically start their formal schooling journey. The focus is on building foundational skills in subjects like language, mathematics, environmental science, and social studies, along with fostering creativity, social development, and basic literacy and numeracy skills.

Middle Level (Classes 6-8)

  • The middle level bridges the transition from primary to secondary education. Students delve deeper into core subjects and begin to explore a wider range of academic disciplines. The curriculum becomes more structured, and students are introduced to concepts that lay the groundwork for higher-level learning.

Secondary Level (Classes 9-10)

  • Secondary education comprises classes 9 and 10, which are crucial years for students as they prepare for the upcoming board examinations. The curriculum becomes more specialized, and students have the opportunity to choose elective subjects based on their interests and career aspirations.

Senior Secondary Level (Classes 11-12)

  • Senior secondary education marks the final stage of schooling before students transition to higher education or vocational training. Classes 11 and 12 are pivotal years where students prepare for board examinations that are recognized for college admissions and further academic pursuits.
  • Within each level, the CBSE curriculum emphasizes academic excellence, holistic development, and the acquisition of critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills. The curriculum is designed to be comprehensive, flexible, and adaptable to cater to the diverse needs and interests of students. Additionally, the CBSE system places importance on co-curricular activities, vocational education, and character development to ensure students receive a well-rounded education that prepares them for success in the 21st century
